Baggage

*Baggage Weight and Size Restrictions

  1. You may check two bags of up to 62 inches each. When weighed together, the two bags may not total more than 70 lbs. No single bag may total more than 50 lbs.
  2. You may take one carry-on and one personal item onboard the plane. Your carry-on is limited to a maximum 45 inches and 40 lbs. Personal items include a purse, a briefcase, a laptop, a small book-bag style backpack, and other similar items that do not exceed 36 linear inches (length + width + height) will be allowed such as a small tote bag or shoulder bag.
  3. The following will not be transported on the plane: Extra bags, overweight bags, oversize bags, boxes. Please note that you can not pay for the transport of these items. They will be left at the airport.

Do not lock your baggage. If you do lock your baggage, the lock will be forcibly removed during the security screening.

Place your name and address on the inside as well as the outside of your baggage.

Carry valuable items such as electronic equipment, cameras, film, cash and jewelry with you on board the aircraft.

Carry necessary items such as medication, prescriptions and keys with you on board the aircraft.

Liquids
It is best to pack liquids in the bags you are checking. Rules for liquids within your carry-on are as follows:

  1. Place all liquid containers in a separate, clear, plastic, quart-size zip-lock bag. Items must fit in the bag comfortably so that it closes completely.
  2. Individual liquid containers should be no larger than 3.4 ounces/100 ml.
  3. Remove the plastic bag from your carry-on at the security checkpoint for separate x-ray screening.

Medication

You may bring all prescription and over-the-counter medications.

It is best to keep prescription medications in their original bottle or package.

For non-prescription liquid or gel medicines like cough syrup and gel cap type pills, volumes greater than 3 oz. must be declared to the Security Officer and cannot be carried in your clear, one-quart bag.

Guidelines for Lithium Batteries
As of January 1, 2008, travelers may no longer pack spare lithium batteries of any kind in checked baggage. Passengers wishing to carry spare lithium batteries for devices such as laptops, cell phones and cameras are now required to pack them in their carry-on baggage with the terminals covered/insulated. Travelers may check bags that contain batteries, as long as they are installed in electronic devices.

Tips for Getting Through Security
You are required to remove your shoes before you enter the walk-through metal detector. All types of footwear must be placed on the X-ray machine to be screened. If you do not comply with Security Officers, you will not be allowed to board your flight.

Avoid wearing clothing, jewelry or other accessories that contain metal when traveling through the security checkpoints:

  1. Heavy jewelry (including pins, necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, earrings, cuff links, lanyards)
  2. Clothing with metal buttons, snaps or studs
  3. Metal hair barrettes or other hair decoration
  4. Belt buckles

Take metal items such as keys, loose change, mobile phones, pagers, and personal data assistants (PDAs) out of your pockets.

Place heavy jewelry and other metal items in your carry-on baggage or in plastic bags if they are offered, until you clear security.

Pack all coats and jackets in your baggage when possible. All coats and jackets must go through the X-ray machine for inspection. If you choose to wear an outer coat or jacket to the checkpoint, you will need to either place it in your carry-on or put it in the bin that is provided for you.

Place these items within the security bin for separate screening:

  1. Laptops
  2. Full-size video game consoles
  3. Full-size DVD players
  4. Video cameras that use video cassettes
  5. Breathing machines

Food and Water
There are no food or water restrictions in Dominica. You should exercise the same caution as you would in the US.

Exchange Rate
1 US Dollar = approximately 2.79 East Caribbean Dollar
